Double-sided tape covers two quite different jobs here. One is a structural bond that has to hold a panel or a sign outdoors through heat, cold and moisture. The other is general assembly, where a thinner tape joins plastics, foam, paper, wood or metal inside a product. Peel and shear separate the two.
What to compare
- Peel against shear — No.7831 shows 62.7 N/25 mm at 90° peel and 606 N/400 mm² shear. No.777 shows 24.51 N/25 mm adhesion and 507.6 N/400 mm² shear. Peel resists being lifted at an edge; shear resists being slid along the joint.
- Thickness and gap filling — 0.4 mm acrylic foam on No.7831 against 0.16 mm non-woven on No.777. The foam takes up surface irregularity and thermal movement; the thinner tape suits close-fitting parts.
- Outdoor and moisture — No.7831 is IPX8 equivalent for water resistance and JIS Z1541 class 1 type 1. No.777 is intended for general assembly with heat resistance for appliance and automotive work.
- Backing — acrylic foam on No.7831, non-woven fabric on No.777.
Typical applications
- No.7831 for signage, trim, panels and brackets.
- No.7831 for bonding metal, glass and engineering plastics without a primer.
- No.777 for plastics, foam, paper, wood and metal in general assembly.
- No.777 in appliance and automotive assembly where a thin bond is enough.
Part numbers in this collection: No.7831 and No.777. Both are supplied 25 mm wide — 30 m on the foam tape, 50 m on the non-woven.
